you know something struck me today.
not knowing it was student's work, i watched a runway show in ADM Fund. today.
Somehow they were all osententiously extravagant, very explorative in textures/materials but somehow the clothes didn't fit, nor was it tailored beautifully. and mind you, it was in Italy, Milan. THAT capital in the fashion world.
Then I realised. The thing I've been thinking so long about.
Perhaps a student's work is often trying to grab your attention,
with that attempt comes big loud displays.
But look beyond that superficial facade,
the lack of intrinsic details and knowledge showed.
It goes the same for Photography too.
And I think I am guilty of that.
Sometimes you try to make such a big big big print,
or a big big big display of some sort.
But when in actual fact,
you were just covering up for the lack of details, the lack of substance.
Talking to CY about FYP again today,
and I guess at the end of the day,
it wasn't whether it was JUST a book.
Try as you might to do up a fantastic booth or a showy solo exhibition,
at the end of the day,
it is that thought in those pictures,
the substance in it that really matters.
It doesn't necessary have to be just a book,
it has to be a book contrived with a purpose. (Packaging/Concept/Printing)
Hmm hmm.
