As i was doing my chinese project today, finding mythology and origins of practices of the Chinese, memories of the past floods back. Days in Malaysia, when we would place the offerings to kitchen god, where we would play fire crackers and the whole house is filled with people and the festive atmosphere. Where have they all gone?
Looking back, i never treasured those. Believing it to be old fashioned and totally unappreciative of the dreadful days where I have to wear skirts and look pretty, I kinda missed it now. The traditional way of welcoming the new year seemed to died off when my grandpa passed away. There were no more huge gatherings, no more red decorations nor traditional way of doing things. Everything just died off that year.
My mom don't practices what her mom has done over the years, and neither my relatives. Does traditions die with modernity? What about the practices and very stories of our Chinese heritage? Who would pass them on to the next generation?
